Cancer is a disease in which some of the body’s cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body. Normally, cells divide to form new cells as the body needs them, and damaged or old cells die and are replaced. Cancer begins when this orderly process breaks down and abnormal or damaged cells multiply when they shouldn’t, often forming tumors (lumps of tissue).
