Company founding and original chatbot focus

Hugging Face was founded in 2016 by French entrepreneurs Clément Delangue, Julien Chaumond, and Thomas Wolf in New York City. At the time, the company’s original focus was developing a chatbot app targeted at teenagers. After open-sourcing the model behind its chatbot, Hugging Face pivoted away from a single chatbot product and toward becoming a broader machine-learning platform. This shift set the stage for its later emphasis on sharing and building with machine learning models and datasets.
