International Space Station overview and purpose

The International Space Station (ISS) is a modular space station in low Earth orbit, built and operated through international cooperation by five partner agencies: NASA (United States), Roscosmos (Russia), ESA (Europe), JAXA (Japan), and CSA (Canada). It is the largest human-made spacecraft ever constructed and has supported the longest continuous human presence in space since November 2000. The ISS orbits Earth roughly every 93 minutes at about 400 km altitude, staying below the Van Allen radiation belts and most major space-debris regions.
