Touchscreen definition and basic components

A touchscreen is a display technology that detects touch input from a user to perform actions. It combines an input device (a touch panel) with an output device (a visual screen), with the touch panel typically layered on top of the electronic display (often LCD, AMOLED, or OLED). Users interact directly with on-screen content using gestures such as tapping, swiping, and pinching, either with a stylus or one or more fingers. In basic terms, a touchscreen system includes the touch panel (the sensing layer that captures where and how the screen is touched) and the display (the visual interface the user sees). Depending on the touchscreen type, the sensing layer may work with different input methods and requirements—for example, some can be used with ordinary fingers (or even gloved fingers), while others may require a special stylus/pen. Touchscreens are widely used in smartphones, tablets, laptops, kiosks, POS systems, ATMs, and vehicle infotainment systems because they enable intuitive, direct interaction with digital content.
