A touchscreen is a display that can detect a user’s touch input to perform actions. It combines an input device (the touch panel) with an output device (the visual display, such as LCD, AMOLED, or OLED). The touch panel is typically layered on top of the display, enabling direct interaction with on-screen content. In basic touchscreen setups, the user provides input by touching the screen with a finger or a stylus/pen (some systems also support gloved use). The touchscreen then sends touch information to the device’s information-processing system, allowing the software to interpret gestures (single-touch or multi-touch) and update what the user sees—for example, selecting items, tapping, swiping, or zooming.
