Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-simulated experience that uses 3D head-mounted displays and pose tracking to make users feel immersed in a virtual world. It typically provides auditory and video feedback, and may also include other sensory effects such as haptic (force) feedback. With VR equipment, users can look around, move within the artificial environment, and interact with virtual objects or features. A core VR experience is built around realistic simulation of a userโs physical presence. This is commonly achieved through VR headsets (a display positioned in front of the eyes) or through multi-projected environments using large screens. VR systems generate stereoscopic 3D visuals and track head movement in real time (including rotational and positional tracking), often supported by motion controllers and other devices (e.g., treadmills or haptic controls) to enable more natural interaction and movement in the virtual space.
